Have you ever had something happen to you that didn't make sense then, but later on, you had a moment of clarity?
It's because there is a higher purpose or divine plan behind every event and experience. Understanding that everything happens for a reason has helped provide comfort, meaning, and guidance as I navigated the ups and downs of life.
How I Ended Up in the Marine Corps?
While attending Clayton State University during class, I overheard my colleague talking about his experience as a military brat and how he used to travel often, enrolling in different schools and having to make new friends. Serving in the military was something I had never considered up until that moment. I thought to myself how inconsiderate parents can be not to consider the bonds their children make and the difficulties they face having to detach themselves from their friends and make new ones. Of course, I was unaware of God's plans for me. I slept on that conversation until I decided to serve in the military. It took a lot of dedication and discipline to follow through. I had been in school for about a year, so I was already in a rhythm of doing things and had built great friendships there. The challenging part was revealing to my parents that I was withdrawing from school to enlist in the military. After informing them of my decision, moving forward with my plans, and doing what was needed to reach my end goal, the process became much easier to move and adapt to the new chapter in life I was creating for myself.
By experiencing hardships, letting go of control, and being open to developing a new perspective on situations, we can move forward easier in life with the understanding that everything happens for a reason.
Growing Pains
My obstacles and emotional development helped shape me into who I am. Most of my personal and professional life challenges were uncomfortable and painful. However, I am still learning about myself. I am discovering my strengths, weaknesses, and interests. As a single mother, what helps me keep moving forward is my children. They look up to me for their wants and needs, so I ensure that I am doing what I need to receive the emotional assistance required to nurture myself and my children, such as going to counseling and praying to help me process my emotions and stay on track. Going through hard times also helps with becoming empathetic towards others because of the ability to relate to their struggles. Don't believe that every challenge you encounter is your fault. Life is supposed to be challenging because that is what the human experience is about. It is how we adapt and overcome those challenges that matter. You are in the driver's seat, people!
Letting Go of Control
The unknown can put us in a state of panic, but walking by faith and not sight allows us to gain freedom and control. There have been many experiences in life that I was not comfortable with because of a lack of expertise and confidence, but I knew in my heart that I was doing something good.
I felt fear when I left home for the first time to go to college. I felt fear when I stepped on those yellow footprints at Parris Island for recruit training to become a Marine. I felt fear when I gave birth to my firstborn and daughter. And I felt fear once I realized it was time for me to get out of the military.
Those experiences aligned with my life purpose, so I surrendered to God and learned to trust that my purpose meant more than my negative emotions and thoughts. It is like walking in a dark room with a blindfold over your eyes while someone holds your hand. All you can do is hear and feel. My ability to surrender allowed me to categorize my energy and over out at the end of the tunnel with a smile. By letting go, situations and people will naturally align with you, leading you to happiness and peace. Don't fight the universe. Become one with it.
A New Perspective in Life
My thoughts about certain things began to change from the lessons I was learning. By embracing change, our thoughts and attitudes also change, leading us to discover other possibilities. Having a positive mindset and eliminating overthinking assists with finding solutions. I had a negative perspective toward parents in the military when it came to moving their families excessively. However, once I joined the Marine Corps and became a parent myself, I became more aware of the military lifestyle and the responsibilities that came along with it. There is power in our thoughts. Change your perspective, change your life.
Overall
When we face traumatic events, finding meaning or any sense of purpose can be difficult. However, the belief that everything happens for a reason implies a purpose behind even the most difficult experiences, which can provide comfort and help us find peace and acceptance during these times. Difficult experiences serve as opportunities for personal development. While facing challenges, we confront our deepest fears, weaknesses, and limitations, which pushes us to overcome obstacles, develop resilience, and cultivate inner strength. By viewing these challenges as necessary lessons on our spiritual journey, we can transform difficult experiences into transformative opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
Moreover, believing everything happens for a reason helps us trust the universe's wisdom or a higher power. It suggests that divine intelligence guides our lives, even if we cannot always comprehend its workings. This trust can help us surrender control, accept forces that are greater than us, and realize that we are never alone, even if we feel we are. Surrendering eliminates negative emotions such as stress, anxiety, and the need to strive for control constantly. Let go of control and be open to change with a positive mind. Embrace the flow of life!
