Embracing detoxification practices promotes mental clarity, emotional balance, physical health, and spiritual growth. It allows individuals to control themselves, have a meaningful healing journey, and find inner peace and happiness.
Detoxification practices are essential for maintaining a balanced and healthy life. Not nurturing yourself is like driving off a cliff. Be proactive. We are all resourceful and needed in this world. We all have strengths that can change the world, but you have to be able to identify them yourself. Know that you are worthy of all beautiful things. Protect yourself and set boundaries. Have faith, make a difference, and strive for harmony. Determination starts with you.
Here are some practices to consider when detoxing the mind, body, and spirit:
Drink water: It helps with hydration, digestion, energy levels, weight management, skin, heart, and more. When I go to the grocery store, I buy at least five gallons, but they are gone by the end of the week. My goal is to drink at least a gallon within two days. Listen to your body’s thirst signals. They will tell you when you need water.
Eat nutritious foods: Healthy foods are necessary for overall health and well-being. Incorporating foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein, and healthy fats assists with energy levels, proper growth and development, illness and infections, strong bones, and mood regulation. When I was pregnant with my second child, I developed gestational diabetes and had to clean up my diet. I began to meal prep, and seven years later, I am still meal prepping, saving money and time in the kitchen to cook and wash dishes. Through my journey with food, I have learned portioning food is just as important as the foods we eat.
Move your body: Work out, dance, or clean your space. Engaging in activities promotes balance, reduces stress, improves sleep quality, boosts self-esteem, and more. I fell in love with weight training in high school, so developing a workout routine aligned with what I enjoy doing and maintaining Marine Corps standards was not hard. Engage in activities that bring joy, fulfillment, and positive energy.
Journal: I started journaling by writing in three journals simultaneously (for notes, knowledge, and random ideas). I needed help figuring out where to start. However, I researched utilizing affirmations, which are positive statements supporting the reality you manifest and began my first entry with “I AM” statements. Writing has also helped me to eliminate negative thoughts and embrace the power of positive thinking. I started to explore my ideas, including the dark and negative, to see why they exist. Writing down daily tasks and responsibilities allowed me to complete them for myself and my children. Journaling has become an outlet for me to process and express emotions, gain clarity on thoughts, set goals and track progress, and encourage me to be mindful of my current thoughts and experiences.
Meditate: Meditation includes various techniques and forms such as praying, walking, yoga, breath awareness, balancing chakras (energy centers), mantra, sound, and visualization meditation. Regular meditation improves focus, reduces stress, increases self-awareness, and a greater sense of inner peace.
Sleep: This practice is difficult because I find it challenging to slow down my thoughts. However, I have created calming bedtime rituals, including calming baths, journaling, and reading, which help me sleep well. Detoxification practices positively impact sleeping patterns and quality by reducing stress, balancing hormones, and encouraging healthy lifestyle habits.
Detach yourself from people draining you: Set boundaries and understand the difference between dependency and interdependence. Dependency is an imbalanced relationship dynamic where one person relies heavily on another person for various needs. Dependency characteristics include emotional clinging, fear of abandonment, and diminished self-esteem. Interdependence is a balanced relationship dynamic comprising all parties that maintain independence and individuality. Interdependence characteristics include mutual support, healthy boundaries, and mutual growth and development. Walk away or limit the time spent with people that drains you. Don’t force relationships to work. There is power in walking away.
Treat yourself and others with compassion: Compassion is a powerful force for positive change in this challenging world. Be gentle, forgive yourself for your past actions, and celebrate your accomplishments. Embracing your journey, including setbacks, is part of your transformation, allowing others to learn from your lessons.
